Coalition third sector impacts
Briefly, some key messages coming out of the new Government relating to learning and skills:
- DWP contracts to be paid more on results
- Possible scrapping of the proposed raising the participation age
- 20% cut in Big Lottery funding, to focus on VCS groups only on that fund. The 20% saved funds to move across to Arts. Heritage and Sport.
- Shift from Train to Gain to Apprenticeships budget
- Refocusing £100m away from Train to gain to refocus on “learning chosen by people themselves"
- Reducing the emphasis on formal qualifications.
The Derbyshire Learning Consortium website provides more details of some of the above. See here for Local Government Association summary of ‘social issues’ of coalition agreement.
Learner Support Qualification
A Learner Support Qualification is being funded by ‘Learn East’ (the regional network of third sector learning and skills partnerships). This qualification is ideal for any volunteers or staffs who support any trainers in delivering learning. It is a 6 session course and will be delivered in Great Yarmouth in the autumn for a cost of around only £35 to learners. Booking forms to follow. Watch this space!
180° Norfolk
180° Norfolk is the name of a new, multi agency approach to turning repeat and other problem offenders away from criminal behaviour. The aim is to deal effectively with the people who often cause most harm to our local communities and to further reduce crime in Norfolk. See here for website.
